Silex-50 is a specialized Cashew Nut Shell Liquid (CNSL) based phenolic resin designed specifically for industrial applications requiring dark and semi-dark colored quick-drying paints and primers. Processed with a unique catalyst, this resin offers both air drying and low baking capabilities, making it ideal for producing high gloss finishes in dark-colored paints, primers, anti-termite chemicals, wood varnishes, black offset printing inks, and insulating varnishes. Silex-50 stands out due to its superior resistance to water and chemicals, essential for durable coatings in demanding environments. Compatible with all drying oils, alkyds, epoxies, ester gums, phenolics, and maleics, it provides excellent formulation flexibility, though it is incompatible with urea resins and has limited compatibility with chlorinated rubbers. Fully soluble in mineral turpentine oil (MTO) and common paint solvents such as toluene, xylene, and naphthas, this resin ensures easy integration into various painting systems. Recommended driers include lead, zirconium, cobalt, and manganese compounds, enhancing drying times and film quality. Available in 100%, 80%, and 70% solids concentration, the 70% grade is preferred for optimal film formation and ease of use. Silex-50 can be applied via brush, spray, or flow techniques, with indefinite storage stability when kept in airtight containers under cool conditions. This CNSL phenolic resin is a robust solution for formulating primers, enamels, insulating varnishes, knifing putties, and black offset printing inks, and it is well-suited for anti-corrosive baking compositions. Users should carefully add reactive basic pigments such as zinc chrome or basic lead sulphate post-grinding to prevent undesirable reactions, ensuring the highest quality product dispersion and performance.

Basic pigments like Zinc Chrome, Zinc Oxide, and basic lead sulphate should not be ground together with the CNSL resin due to potential reactive interactions. They should be added after grinding with the main pigments to ensure proper dispersion and avoid chemical reactions.

Silex-50 has limited compatibility with chlorinated resins such as chlorinated rubber and should be used cautiously. Testing formulations before full-scale use is recommended.

Silex-50 coatings can be applied by brush, spray, or flow methods, providing versatility depending on industrial process requirements.

Use a combination of 0.5% Lead or Zirconium, 0.5% Cobalt, and 1.5% Manganese based on solid resin content. Manganese concentration may be increased by 1.0% for better drying performance.

Silex-50 is soluble in Mineral Turpentine Oil (MTO), toluene, xylene, naphthas, and esters but has limited solubility in epoxies, vinyl, and ethyl ketones.

Introduction: Silex-50 is a Plain Cashew Nut Shell Liquid based Phenolic resins and is processed using special catalyst to cater to the need of various dark & semi dark coloured quick drying paints and primers. The resin has got both air drying and low baking properties and is suitable for making high gloss dark & semi dark coloured paints, primers, anti-termite chemicals and wood varnishes, Black offset printing inks, Insulating Varnishes of outstanding properties particularly in regard to resistance to the water and chemical.

Compatibility: Silex-50 is compatible with all Drying oils, Alkyds, Epoxies, Ester gums, Phenolics, Maleics etc., in all proportion and only to a limited extent in chlorinated resins specially chlorinated rubber. It is not compatible with urea resins.

Solubility: Silex-50 is soluble in Mineral Turpentine oil (MTO) in all proportion. It is also soluble in most of the common paints solvent like Toluene, Xylene, Naphtha’s, Ester etc., but having limited solubility in Epoxies, vinyl & ethyl ketones.

Recommended Driers: Driers such as 0.5% Lead or Zirconium, 0.5% Cobalt and 1.5% Manganese as metal on the solid resin content is recommended. If require the proportion of Manganese can be increased to further 1.0% with beneficial effects. After addition of driers ageing for 24 hours is recommended.

Mode of Supply: It is supplied in 200 kg’s packing’s as 100%, 80%, and 70% solids. For most of the paints and varnishes applications 70% execution is recommended as it has the best film properties & flowable from drums.

Application Technique: Film of Silex-50 can be applied either by brush, spray or flow technique.

Storage: The storage stability is Silex-50 is indefinite if stored in air tight containers in a cool place.

Recommended uses: Silex-50 either alone or in combination with other resins are used for formulating primers, dark coloured enamels and paints, insulating varnishes, knifing putty, Black offset Printing inks and similar other applications including special purpose anti corrosive paints baking composition etc.

Caution: Some times Silex-50 may be used along with basic pigment like Zinc Chrome,

Zinc Oxide, basic lead sulphate etc. It is advised that these pigments are not ground along

with the main pigment in the CNSL resin as there is a possibility of reaction. The reactive

pigments should be added after the grinding for proper dispersion of the Pigment. Hence it

is advisable to grind the main pigments with any Long Oil Alkyd Resin and then add our

CNSL resin outside and stir well to avoid reaction.
