Irganox 1076
IRGANOX 1010
Irganox 1010 is a highly effective, sterically hindered phenolic antioxidant. It is one of the most widely used and trusted antioxidants in the plastics, rubber, and synthetic fiber industries. Its primary function is to protect polymers from degradation caused by oxidation during high-temperature processing (e.g., extrusion, injection molding) and throughout the product's lifetime.
Irgafos 168
Irgafos 168 is a hydrolytically stable, sterically hindered phosphite antioxidant. It is classified as a secondary antioxidant or process stabilizer. Its primary role is not to scavenge free radicals directly but to decompose hydroperoxides (ROOH), which are unstable intermediates formed during the oxidation of polymers.
It is a trademarked product of BASF (originally from Ciba Specialty Chemicals) and is one of the most widely used phosphites in the world, almost always used in combination with primary phenolic antioxidants like Irganox 1010 or 1076.
BHT (Butylated Hydroxytoluene)
BHT (Butylated Hydroxytoluene) is a simple, low-molecular-weight, sterically hindered phenolic antioxidant. It functions as a primary antioxidant (radical scavenger) and is one of the oldest and most widely recognized synthetic antioxidants used in a vast range of industries, from polymers to food and cosmetics.
BHA (Butylated Hydroxyanisole)
BHA (Butylated Hydroxyanisole) is a synthetic, fat-soluble phenolic antioxidant. It is chemically similar to BHT and functions as a primary antioxidant (radical scavenger). It is actually a mixture of two isomeric organic compounds: 2-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyanisole and 3-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyanisole, with the latter being the predominant and more active form.
Its key differentiating feature from BHT is the presence of a methoxy group (-OCH₃), which influences its solubility, antimicrobial properties, and applications.
