Eri silk cultivation is rooted in the life and culture of the people of northeast India, especially in the state of Assam. This kind of silk is a product of the domesticated silkworm, Philosamia ricini that feeds mainly on castor leaves and cassava.Eri silk is a staple fibre, unlike other silks, which are continuous filament. The texture of the fabric is coarse, fine, and dense. It is very strong, durable, and elastic. Eri silk is darker and heavier than other silks and blends well with wools and cotton.Assam Contributes 95% and 65% of country's total Muga and Eri production respectively.Due to its thermal properties it is warm in winter and cool in summer.

Ladakh produces the finest quality of Pashmina worldwide (12-14 microns). 45 T of Pashmina is produced annually by Changra goats of the Changthang region. Changthang region of Ladakh hosts an exotic variety of goats, which grow Cashmere as down fibre. This down fibre is acquired in the Summer season and processed to make Pashmina products.The Pashmina Goat survives on the Grass grown on the lands of Kashmir and Ladakh where the temperature can go as below as -30 Degrees Centigrade.
