2. Industrial & Commercial Applications
A. Sun Care & Personal Care
Secondary UV Filter: Typically used at concentrations of 2% to 6% to boost the SPF of primary filters like Octyl Methoxycinnamate.
Photostabilizer: It is highly photostable and is frequently added to formulations specifically to protect other active ingredients and fragrances from sunlight-induced degradation.
Color Cosmetics: Used in nail polishes (up to 1%), lipsticks, and foundations to maintain product color and prevent fading in transparent packaging.
B. Plastics & Polymers
Light Stabilizer: Incorporated into plastics like PVC, ABS, and polyesters to prevent yellowing, brittleness, and loss of physical properties caused by UV exposure.
Transparent Packaging: Ideal for protecting the contents of clear plastic bottles or films from UV light.
C. Coatings & Inks
Paints & Varnishes: Used in clear wood coatings and outdoor paints to shield the substrate and the binder from solar radiation.
Photo-initiator: Can act as a photo-initiator in UV-curable ink systems to speed up the drying process
benzophenone-4
Benzophenone-4 (also known as Sulisobenzone) is a water-soluble secondary UV filter that provides broad-spectrum protection by absorbing radiation in both the UVB and UVA-II ranges (approximately 270–350 nm). Unlike many other UV filters, its sulfonic acid group makes it highly soluble in water, allowing it to be used in transparent, oil-free formulations.
